Overview

The Top Navbar is a commonly used navigational element for any type of website or application. It is always located at the very top of all pages, above all content, and extends full width across the screen. Depending on the information structure the Top Navbar could consist of internal links, flyout menu, action buttons, search bar, logo, contacts. Its only purpose is to help users browse, engage with the content, and facilitate searching.

A well-designed Top Navbar is distinctive, sticky, provides easy access to the information that users need, and improves the SEO.

Key Principles

  • Full width – the Top Navbar takes the full width of the page;
  • Simplicity – the Top Navbar includes only elements of primary importance;
  • Visibility – the Top Navbar must always be reachable to avoid unnecessary scrolling on the page or clicks from page to page.
