Roadmap

Telerik Extensions for ASP.NET MVC is a framework for deploying reusable native UI components in MVC views. Starting with its first release back in the beginning of 2010, the Telerik MVC suite is being continuously developed and extended with new extensions and features. Our ultimate goal is to satisfy the needs of the MVC developers by providing a compact set of fast, rich and close-to-the-metal MVC components.

The current official major version features 15 major and 7 helper extensions: Calendar, Chart, ComboBox, Date/Time Pickers, Editor, Grid, NumericTextBoxes, Slider, Splitter, TabStrip, PanelBar, Menu, TreeView, Upload and Window. All of them fully embrace the values of the ASP.NET MVC framework - lightweight rendering, clean HTML, optimized javascript footprint, clear separation of concerns, easy testability – and at the same time provide the needed functionality for building interactive line-of-business ASP.NET MVC applications.

The initial release in 2012 (expected in mid February) will mark the debut of one new series type and important major features to the chart component, and a bunch of new features across the entire pack of MVC extensions.

Enhancements to existing components

Chart

The MVC charting extension progressively gains more traction and this release will make no exception. Here is the list of features that are coming for the next major release:

  • New Area chart type
  • Multiple Value Axes
  • Plot Bands
  • Axis title

Furthermore, we will provide a demo for server-side export to PNG and PDF formats using a third party image processing tool.

Calendar/Date Pickers

  • Today Button
  • onreset DOM event support

ComboBox

  • Cascading comboboxes support
  • Option label

DropDown

  • Option label
  • Focused state

Editor

  • Superscript/subscript tool

Grid

  • Extended editing API
  • Support for Toolbar template and buttons at the same time

NumericTextBox

  • onreset DOM event support

TreeView

  • Client API for adding/removing nodes

Common for all components

Combined javascript file for all components and features

You will have the option to serve a single javascript file (instead of multiple files) that consolidates all MVC components with their features.

Improved MVC authorization support

More custom authorization scenarios will be supported when this functionality is established.

Visual Style Builder updates

Telerik’s Visual Style Builder will get some mandatory updates throughout 2012. The tool aims to make skinning the Telerik ASP.NET MVC components a breeze through a visual interface without the need to know the front-end structure of the components.

We will be actively seeking feedback and depending on the interest we will be adding more components and features in the upcoming releases.

We welcome all of your feedback and suggestions:
