Overview

• Powerful Databinding

  Telerik Grid for ASP.NET MVC has a very optimized databinding logic designed to support various data and to handle large datasets.  Thanks to its robust Linq-based data engine the most commonly used Grid operations (sorting, paging, filtering) are swiftly pushed to the database to achieve the best performance. The Grid supports several modes of databinding allowing you to choose the most appropriate balance for your scenario:
   
  

  • Server binding – can be implemented with minimal configuration. All the required data is submitted in the query string. See demo
  • Ajax – you can have your Grid perform ajax requests to retrieve data when doing paging, sorting and filtering. See demo
  • WebServices – the component can be bound to WebServices or external WebServices, for better performance results. See demo
  • Custom - you can configure your Grid to use custom binding. By default the Grid is using the built-in Linq expression engine, but in some cases you may want to perform data operations by yourself. See demo

• Hierarchy

  Telerik ASP.NET MVC Grid has an extremely flexible hierarchy model which allows for meaningful structure of tables and complex data. The model provides support for unlimited levels of hierarchical structure based on parent/child relation settings. In addition, the Grid’s Detail Template feature gives you complete freedom to design the overall structure and appearance of the detail tables in your hierarchical grid, allowing you to insert various html elements – pictures, links, or other MVC Extensions. The Grid supports server and ajax load-on-demand modes for hierarchies, as well as server and client detail templates.

• Paging

  The ASP.NET MVC Grid provides integrated paging functionality - it lets users view large sets of data in small chunks for faster loading and easier navigation. What is more, end-users have the option to select how many items they would like to see on a page thanks to the page-size combobox.

• Sorting

  You can have the Telerik ASP.NET Grid automatically sort its data entries by setting a single property. In addition to the simple one-column sorting Telerik MVC Grid allows you to sort data by several columns just like in Microsoft Excel.

  The Telerik Grid for ASP.NET MVC allows you to filter data by applying filter pattern on a per-column basis. For each column RadGrid will create a filtering dropdown menu with the expressions applicable to the respective data type.

  You can easily have multilevel grouping of data from a single table - just drag the column header(s) to the group panel which defines the grouping order and hierarchy. You can also rearrange the grouping headers in the group area (again by dragging and dropping).

  The Grid Extension allows you to edit, insert, update and delete data through the auto-generated, custom edit forms and pop-up edit forms. You can also manage various data entries - text, numerical, dates, etc. through the integrated DatePicker and HTML Editor. Depending on the column data type, a relevant Editor allows you to edit content in a friendly environment.

  The Telerik Grid component allows you to customize the way the data is presented by embedding any content inside the grid templates, including images, links, any HTML markup. To allow for even greater variety of customizations, the Grid extension exposes toolbar as well as column header/item/footer templates supported both in server and client binding mode. Additionally, you can also define edit templates for the Grid. There are several built-in templates for Date/Time, Currency and Number editing.
