2023 pumpkin season welcomes a new release with updates across Telerik and Kendo UI product lines. With R3 2023, Progress continues to empower developers to rapidly build engaging and highly functional digital experiences on modern frameworks to meet their evolving business requirements.

Whether modernizing legacy projects or building new applications, you will find the tools you need for UI styling and customization, robust feature requirements, meaningful data visualizations and even updated debugging technology to ensure a smooth development cycle.

Let’s See the R3 2023 Highlights

Tailored UX with Efficient Styling and Customization

  • Enhanced Design System capabilities: With R3 2023, we have expanded the Design System documentation—launched in R2 2023—by meticulously detailing more components. The dedicated Design System site offers a wide range of resources, design assets and frontend documentation specifically tailored for the Telerik and Kendo UI libraries.
  • New ThemeBuilder integrations and more: Our unique and powerful Progress ThemeBuilder app now supports seven new components, driving consistent UI styling and customization use cases. It is also empowered with new capabilities like support for SVG icons, new Sass-based Classic theme, component variants and more.
  • Powerful customization capabilities across the board: We’ve added multiple new customization capabilities like Gantt date formatting in Timeline Headers to ensure no app requirement is left behind.

Secure and WCAG 2.2 Compliant Applications

  • Improved accessibility in line with the newly released WCAG 2.2 standard: With this release, we continue our efforts to improve the overall accessibility of Telerik and Kendo UI web components, now ensuring compliance with WAI-ARIA, Section 508 and the newly released WCAG 2.2 standard. We’re proud to be among the first on the market to be WCAG 2.2 compliant, which means that Telerik and Kendo UI products have covered the mandatory requirements for Minimum Target Size and Navigable Guidelines as well as the Dragging Movement criteria.
  • Strict CSP compliance: Improving the Telerik and Kendo UI products’ Content Security Compliance (CSP) was one of our biggest goals in 2023. We’re excited to share that in R3 2023 we took the final step in this direction, allowing us to provide you with a secure and efficient icon system and the option to load and reference only needed resources. We extracted the Font icons as a separate package and detached the inline font declaration from the Telerik and Kendo UI themes. However, the themes continue to support both font and SVG icons in components, but using the font icons will require a separate stylesheet to be referenced by clients.

New UI Components in the Spotlight

  • Desktop to web migration: DockManager for migrating from desktop to the web is now added to Telerik UI for ASP.NET Core/MVC and Kendo UI for jQuery libraries. It helps you recreate experiences desktop users are used to and expect in your web applications.
  • Spreadsheet functionality for Angular: Empower your Kendo UI for Angular apps with robust Excel-like functionality thanks to the newly introduced Spreadsheet component. I can hear you asking if there is something new in KendoReact Spreadsheet as well? Of course there is. It now comes with improved editing and formatting tools and support for error handling.
  • New data visualization components: In today’s data-driven world, we strive to give developers what they need for stunning web visualizations. That’s why with R3 2023 we welcome multiple new data visualization components like Trendline, Pyramid, KendoReact OrgChart and various other chart series that can standalone or integrate with other UI controls.
  • New controls in Blazor: Modernizing applications faster is possible with the leading Telerik UI for Blazor and .NET MAUI libraries. ListBox and DropDownButton are just two of the newly added components that shape Telerik UI for Blazor into the only Blazor library you’ll ever need.
  • Scheduling capabilities and a pioneering NavigationView component in .NET MAUI: A new Scheduler component in .NET MAUI offers an in-app calendar experience similar to Outlook or Google Calendar, while the first-of-its-kind NavigationView control ensures consistent navigational experience.
  • New controls for desktop apps: We continue boosting our desktop libraries with new components including SlideView, PipsPager, SVG control and Chat (Conversational UI) to ensure any advanced desktop requirement is met.

Productivity Boost with Robust Features and Support for the Latest Frameworks

  • Cross-platform deployment of Telerik Reporting applications: Telerik Reporting now supports Linux thanks to a SkiaSharp-based graphics library that enables Linux deployment of .NET 6+ applications.
  • Modernized reporting experience: A native Angular Report Viewer and built-in support for configuration of gauges are some of the other enhancements to help developers level up their reporting efforts.
  • Updated debugging technology: Ensuring faster development cycles and staying on top of your troubleshooting efforts is a piece of cake with the official HTTP/2 support, enhanced onboarding and Composer experience, and more in the popular Fiddler Everywhere debugging solution.
  • Multiple Grid enhancements across Telerik and Kendo UI products: Improvements like a dedicated Context Menu ensure developers like you are equipped with a high-performant, full-featured Grid to cover any data-heavy app requirement.
  • Continued industry-leading support for Microsoft’s newest frameworks: Following the evolution of .NET 8, Telerik products now feature compatibility with the latest .NET 8 release candidate (RC).
