Hello Kate,
The QA Edition is a stand-alone application that does not require a license of Visual Studio, you also get a lot more functionality in the area of test list creation and local / remote scheduling engines and results reporting.
I have included a comparison chart for you to take a look at as well (be sure to click the show more link)
Tests created in the QA Edition can be updated in the Developer Edition and vice versa - the two editions have been designed for seamless collaboration. This holds true as long as the test is maintained in the .aii format, if you have converted a test to a C# or VB unit test, it will need to be maintained in code, thus in Visual Studio. As an alternative to converting the entire test to code, we suggest utilizing 'scripted steps' which keeps the test in its original format allowing collaboration between both editions.
Hope this helps!
