Hello,

We are currently evaluating Telerik and are very close to purchasing, however, I have come across a problem.

We need out tests to run overnight so were advised to run the tests on a Virtual Machine instead of my local machine. However, I have installed a trial version on my VM and attempted to record a test but when the browser opens it will not load and immediatley states "not responding" in the end i have to force close the web page. I have attached a log file for this in case that helps.

I recorded a test on my local machine and coppied this onto my Virtual Machine to try and run it, it navigates to the website in the first test step but then nothing happens, its as if it gets stuck trying to do the next test step and it just hangs. The test runs fine on my local machine. I have attached a log file for this too.

I am trying to record and play the test while remote desk topping onto the VM initialy and will then need to schedule the test to run overnight.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Chloe

Hello John,

Please note that it is not necessary to have a virtual machine in order to run tests overnight. You can successfully schedule them on your local machine as well and review the results in the morning, but let's use this as a last resort.

Now on your issue regarding not being able to record and execute on the VM this is quite weird, and this has never been reported before. I assume this is an environment issue that we need to discover. I will need more information about the VM.
Things that I would like you to check first are firewall and antivirus, they need to be disabled. Also are you running Test Studio or Visual Studio as administrator? I've also noticed that you are using Firefox as default browser. Did you try to record and execute with other browsers such as IE. Please also make sure the browsers on the VM are properly calibrated. Please check if you are using proxy and remove it from your network settings.

Please also keep in mind that if you are going to use scheduling on the VM it needs to be in the same domain as your local machine.

I was having the playback issue and found that I needed to adjust the Network settings for the VMplayer this was my fix:

Launch the VM and login to the desktop if you set up a login
At the top Left of the Player window Click on Player to open
the drop down
Navigate to the location in the pick below and open the
Network adapter settings.
Leave Connected and Connected at power on enabled for Device
Status
For network Connection choose Bridged: Connected directly to
the physical network and its sub-option Replicate physical network connection
state
Removable Devices > Network Adapter > Settings
Click on the Configure Adapters button
Disable any adapters that are not the adapters for the machine the VM is installed on.

This allowed me to connect and run on a VM.
