Hi,

Is there a simple, straightforward way of scheduling a test list to run at a specified time? The instructions in the blogs and Telerik TV are bit complicated (for me). I just need to run the test list in the same machine as where the Telerik WebUI Test Studio QA Edition is installed.

Regards,
Kristine

Hello Kristine,
scheduling TestList really is quite straight forward once you get the hang of it.
To get you started I think the best thing would be a short video tutorial.

Keep in mind that in the video I do everything locally. But in principle you can use your scheduling feature to connect many machines to one scheduling server. In the video I just configure my local machine as an execution server.

I'm assuming you have an SQL Server installed? If you don't, you will need to install one. The good news is that once you have that you're ready to start scheduling tests.

Here's the video:

I use Windows 7 but it works the same way with XP. You just have to find the two applications:
Configure Scheduling Server
Congiure As Exectuion Server
        yourself from the Start Menu.

One more thing: You can check the results from the same place where you schedule them (Results tab).
However, before you can see them you need to load them from the server. This is necessary because WebUI Test Studio doesn't know your SQL Server is also located on the local machine. So you have to click the Load From Server button as seen in screenshot 1.

Please let me know how it goes and whether you're experiencing any problems!

Sincerely yours,

Hello Kristine,

There is another option actually. You can also use the Windows Task Scheduler (or similar third party task scheduling service) to make it run on the local machine. Much simpler then setting up a scheduling server. Have it execute ArtOfTest.Runner with appropriate command line parameters to execute your test(s) or test list. Have you found our documentation on how to use ArtOfTest.Runner?

Kind regards,

Stoich,

I am getting an error when I try to launch the Configure as Scheduling Server and Configure as Execution Server links. The messages are as follows:

"Telerik.WebUITestStudio.Scheduling.Setup has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..."

"Telerik.WebUITestStudio.Scheduling.ClientMach...
has stopped working
Windows is checking for a solution to the problem..."

Cody,

Yup, I've successfully tried the Windows scheduler to execute the ArtOfTest.Runner. I am just curious on how to use the Scheduling feature in the Q3 release :)

Regards,
Kristine

Hi Kristine,
are you using an account with Administrator rights when you get the errors?

It really isn't possible to have a running Execution Server or Scheduling Server under a non-administrative account: that's the way we designed it. So you will need to switch to a Windows Account with Administrative rights.

We're sorry for the inconvenience - we'll replace the unhandled exception with a really nice message explaning that unfortunately you'll have to use an admin account in our next Service Pack.

Please let us know whether using an Administrator Account solves the issue!

Best wishes,
