With the new policy from Chrome, if the extensions aren't in Chrome Web Store will be disabled.
So.. I have Telerik Studio Extension (installed from Telerik control panel) and it was disabled.
Can I recover the extension?

Hi Emmanuel,

Are you running Chrome Beta channel build? The policy has been there for months but not applied to Stable channel yet.

Other than that the Test Studio Chrome extensions are available in Chrome Web Store as well. You can just search by "Test Studio" to get them in the result.

And only for documentation, yes I use the Stable channel, my version is Versión 35.0.1916.114 m and the "Error" message  is :

"This extension does not appear in Chrome Web Store and could have been added without your knowledge. Learn more"  the link redirect to --> https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/2811969?p=ui_remove_non_cws_extensions&rd=1

Hi, all, I had the same situation today as Emmanuel had.
My chrome version is stable version as well: Version 35.0.1916.114 m. Is up to date.

The things I discovered were:
Looks like Telerik updated there new versions of extension in the Chrome Web Store. I add three extensions from the store where are different version number and name to my current disabled extension.
Three new extensions are:
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Explore 2014.1.410.2
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Playback 2014.1.410.1
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Recorder 2014.1.410.1

My disabled extension are:
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Automation 2014.1.410.0
Telerik Test Studio Recorder 2014.1.410.0
Telerik Exploratory Testing Extension 1.0

I am not sure if it is the reason.

Thanks,

Reno

Hello,

@Jenny, the versions have been indeed updated, however that was mostly for tweaks for the Chrome Web Store.

The real problem is that Google apply the aforementioned policy and so Test Studio is not able to automatically install the extensions, instead Chrome requests manual update from the Web Store.

It seems the policy has not been officially announced yet for the Stable channel builds of latest Google Chrome. However some machines are definitely updated to apply the policy so one needs to manually find in the Web Store and download/enable the extensions in the browser. That could be an issue specific to previous build in Chrome but nevertheless the policy applies there.

The even bad part is we will need another set of Chrome extensions uploaded to the Web Store for the upcoming 2014 R2 official release of Test Studio as there have been a number of changes recently. We are adding more functionality to the Chrome recorder and also changing the playback so that recorder and playback can communicate in various scenarios. At the end we will need a set of extensions for the Test Studio versions till 2014.1 (April release) and a new one for the upcoming R2 in June.

So what happens now then? I have the same issue now with the extension being disables. I removed the existing extensions and installed the new ones from the Chrome Webstore. However when trying to record Test Studio will again try and an extension of its own which will not work.

See also the attached screenshot.

So now I am stuck and can no longer record under Chrome. And IE being the nightmare that it is I am just stuck right now.

Hi Roger,

You've mixed the recorder and playback extensions according to your screenshot. Please make sure to install/enable one set of recorder and playback extensions according to the exact TS you are using. Those version 605 are targeting the latest internal build only so unless you've upgraded Test Studio to the very latest you need those recorder and playback extensions without version mentioned in the name.

Please let me know if you have further questions.

Hi Konstantin,

I am using Test Studio 2014.1.410.0 which as far as I know is the latest version of the software available to me. This version will install the Telerik Test Studio Chrome Automation 2014.1.410.0 .

This extension however does not allow itself to be activated. I can click it into infinity it will remain inactive. Now in order to possibly resolve this I removed all extension and instead installed the extension from the Chrome Webstore.
This resulted in:
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Explore 2014.1.410.2
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Playback 2014.1.410.1
Telerik Test Studio Chrome Playback 2014.1.605.1
Any and all combination of these extensions will still not let me record/playback under Chrome at this point.

I have once again remove all extension. Closed the browser. Then started the browser again and went back to extensions.
Then I dragged ChromeExtension.crx from the install folder to the extension window.

This will trigger the dialogue to install it. Once done so it is installed and ticked on.
Close the browser. Start Recording session and it fails. Chrome will once again have turned off the Chrome Automation extension as it has not be installed via the Chrome Web Store.

Hello,

The local extensions are not allowed, that's the result of the Chrome policy. You need to add them manually from the Chrome Web Store. I'm posting direct links to all extensions available today.

Test Studio 2014.1.410
Recorder
Playback

Test Studio 2014.1.605
Recorder
Playback

Both can run the same Chrome extension for exploratory testing:
Exploratory

Hi,

Is there an extension available in the Chrome Web Store for Telerik Testing Framework? We were using "Telerik Test Studio Chrome Automation" plugin extension and now it has been disabled by chrome and no longer works.

Hi,

The Chrome Playback extension is responsible for tests playback regardless if you're running Test Studio or Testing Framework products.
