Hi,

I'm currently evaluating the Test Studio tool. In this process I have found that selecting a dropdown value fails during execution. The tool doesn't throw an error message but just doesn't select the value during execution. I had no issues while recording. Please find the attached screenshot.

Below are the events that took place while recording:

1) Select the dropdown box
2)List of values appear
3)Select a value, the value displays in the field after selecting

Hi Shilpika,

Thank you for taking the time to evaluate Test Studio. Some applications will only recognize a click when using a simulated mouse click. Our default recording injects a click event directly into the browsers DOM. Try checking SimulateRealClick as shown in the attached screen shot on those two steps and let me know if that fixes the problem.

Hi Cody,

Thanks for taking time to reply to my issue. I have already tried the Simulate Mouse click to those events and it didn't work. The dropdown i'm talking about is actually a custom built dropdown built using google web tool kit.

Hi Shilpika,

Thanks for trying Simulate Mouse click. I could tell it is a custom drop down by the type of test steps that were created... they aren't the standard drop down select steps.

Is there a way we can connect to your application (from a browser running on my machine) to diagnose the problem? Or is there an equivalent sample online somewhere that shows the same problem (such as this one)?

Hi Cody,

Is it possible for you to diagnose the problem by connecting to our environment on my machine using GoTo meeting. If so, I could set up a go to meeting and go from there.

Hello Shilpika,

I might be able to solve it in a GoToMeeting. It depends on the exact root cause of the problem. At a minimum I can localize where the problem is. We generally reserve those for last resort (when other methods do not work out) because they are relatively expensive in terms of our time required to set it up and conduct the meeting.

Hi Shilpika,

Summarizing our meeting today: We found that by adjusting the find expression for the element that clicks on the item in the drop down makes the test work reliably. It was trying to click on div:251 and finding the wrong div element as a result. This was causing the test to fail.

Closing as resolved.

As of the screenshot you have provided I would recommend you double check the find expression of the element which is to be selected from the Unordered list.
