Recommended # of Load Agents to Users?

Is there any recommendation on about how many virtual users can run against a machine with certain specs?

 

We're trying to make a determination how many machines we'll need to procure to run the load we're needing.

Hi David,

Based on our experience, approximately 8 users can be supported per CPU unit. This seems to have realistic load testing results. If there are a lot more users allocated per CPU. there might be HTTP requests queued up, due to overload of the execution machine CPU.

You can use the above information as a base guideline and experiment on your end to find the optimal virtual user count per CPU.

So to confirm if our CPU has 8 cores, than the recommended is 64 users for that machine?  If I understand what you are saying.

Hi David,

Yes, that is absolutely correct. Our tests approximate that 8 virtual users per CPU, or in your case 64 virtual users in total, produce good results. That said, I would advise you to leave some room for other application and services that are running on the machine and of course for Windows. My advice is to use only 6 or 7 of the CPUs or 48-56 virtual users.
