We've just started using recordings of the automated tests. This was fine, until one day the resolution of the tests seems to have dropped in the recordings, and we can't put it back to what it was.  The Test Runner is on a machine with 3840x2160 resolution, but the recordings are now always in 1920x1080.  In the Test Runner settings, the setting to change the resolution only has one value (1920x1080) and in the dropdown does not offer anything else.

Thanks for helping me find how I can change this configuration.

Hello,

Thank you for contacting us. I will do my best to share details about the User Session Configuration for the Test Runner and try to find out what is causing this different behavior.

If I understand correctly, the execution machine has high resolution - 3840x2160 when you are connected to it with RDP and the recordings had this resolution before. I assume that you were not closing the remote desktop connection before, please correct me if I`m wrong. As a result, the resolution of the recording was 3840x2160. You can verify that if you don't close the remote desktop connection and execute the test list remotely on that machine.

So, when the recordings have different resolution - 1920x1080, the remote connection was most likely closed and Windows runs in its default console resolution. Then, the Test Runner reconnected automatically (using tscon command), because you have enabled "Reconnect to console on disconnect" in the Test Runner's configurations.

The next option - "Change console resolution to", allows you to chose the exact resolution of the reconnected session. That drop down list of values is taken from Windows API on that machine. It seems that this resolution 1920x1080 is the only available option for console session, since you do not see other values.

I am interested to know more about the kind of virtual machine (local or cloud - where is it hosted) you have on your end, so I can continue investigating this further. Please also discuss with the IT team whether there are some specific configurations or restrictions in regards to resolution, console session and remote connection for that machine, and share those details in the thread.

Please do not hesitate to contact us again, if you need any help, or you have follow up questions.
