When I try to view the videos on http://www.telerik.com/automated-testing-tools/support/videos/getting-started/webui-test-studio-qa-edition---creating-your-first-project.aspx, I receive the error, "Failed to open media."

What can I troubleshoot to resolved this?

Video failed to load in IE8 and Firefox 4.

Hello Tom,

I just tested that video on IE8 and Chrome. It appears to be working just fine now. Be aware it does require Silverlight be installed on your computer to be able to view that particular video. Let us know if you continue to have problems with it.

All the best,

I've tried it on two machines, both with IE8 and Silverlight with the latest version of Flash installed. It's still not loading.

Hi Tom,

I am sorry you continue to have this problem! Can I assume you tried it in both machines in the same location such as within your office? If true I suspect you are running into a firewall issue that is blocking the video content. Can you check with your IT department to see if they can assist opening the necessary port? I am sorry I do not know which port is being used. If you need this information I can pass this along to our web team that sets up our videos (I am support for the Test Studio product specifically).

Best wishes,
Cody

Thanks, Cody. Since the last post I made, various team members around the office have tried to view the videos on a total of five machines around the office, two of them virtual Hyper-V images. Will you see if you can get that port information, and I'll see if we can get that port opened up?

Thanks.

Hi Tom,
Is there any chance that a program or third party plugin disables you from downloading .mp4 files?
The videos use this format. Other than that, the port the videos are coming through is 80 so I don't expect this to be the problem.

You can also check if there is anything in your event log (often antivirus programs report blocked content there). To do so, open your Start menu and type "Event Viewer" in the text box, this will run the event viewer.
Check if there is anything suspicious there.

You are quite welcome to let us know if there is anything else we can help you, moreover - we would like to assist you in further troubleshooting should you need it.

Thank you for choosing Telerik!
Greetings,

I don't have any plug-ins installed that I know of, and while I guess it's possible that another program could be blocking the video, I don't know if that's the case. Nothing shows up in the event log at the time of attempted viewing.

Our helpdesk is attempting to see if there's something in our proxy server that's stopping it.

Thanks.

The problem ended up being that one of our web filters was catching the redirect to a URL that was classified as "Streaming Media", blocking it from our view. I have to submit a change ticket for our filter configuration and don't know how long it will take to get approved and actually have the work done.

I was told last week when this problem first arose that there is no download available of the videos. May I appeal this? If the videos stream, they must be hosted on a server somewhere. It is important for us to be able to access the videos, so is there somewhere they can be kept long enough to download them, or is it possible to have them sent to us?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi Tom,
The link to the video is actually in the markup of the page.
You can "View Source" of the page and search for .mp4. You will see the link that the video uses.
I will try to push internally to see if we can replicate the videos on our server but this will probably be a long term commitment as we have a lot of things in our schedule.

I will also see if we can manually download the videos for you and send them to a handy place where you can download them but I cannot promise that as we as well have some plicies about our content and bandwidth.
Can you please tell me which videos do you need?
All that are listed on that page or just particular?

Thanks in advance
I am updating your Telerik Points (+500) as a small reward for your for the inconvenience we caused.

Thanks, Pavel.

I've submitted a change request with our Network administrators to get an exception for "Streaming Media" from telerik's web site. That should (hopefully) be done in the next week. I watched the training videos from home, so there's no urgency to get an ftp or download set up for us.

What are Telerik points?

Thanks again,
Tom B.
