Hi,
Can we tell the tool to execute the test until a specific step?

Hi wissam ab,

Yes, we recently added a "Run To Here" option in both the Dev and QA editions. To activate the feature, while in the Steps panel, right click on the test step you want to run to and select "Run To Here" from the popup menu. The test will start executing and run up to (and including) the selected step. Then the test will stop and go into Record mode. This feature is only available in the current internal build.

There is no method to stop the test at a specific step when run from a test list (or via MSTest command line execution). You can have the test pause on a specific step by changing the steps Pause property to either Before or After (to pause Before that step or After that step). When the pause is hit, the test will pause with a prompt. When you click OK on the prompt the test will continue to execute.

Sincerely yours,
Cody

"Run To Here"  is not available, I cannot see it. I have 210.1 as version.

Hi wissam ab,

Sounds like you are running out 2010.1.4.23 release. This feature was introduced with our 2010.1.5.18 release. Please download the latest internal build to get this feature.

Hello wissam ab,

Can you check the logs for any exceptions? Switch to Help -> View Log from the ribbon bar. You can also check the Logs folder in the product installation root if an exception is logged.

Does the same test run fine using the Quick Execute or does a some step fail?

Best wishes,

Hi wissam ab,

We need to figure out if this is a common problem on your end or something specific to the test in question. Can you try recording a test against some public site like google.com and perform a RunToStep once you record the test? Does that work?

All the best,

Hello wissam ab,

I am sorry to hear this feature isn't working correctly for you. I'd like to look at this problem via GoToMeeting. Can we do that? Let me know what timezone you are in and your availability and I'll setup the meeting. I'm in Austin, TX which is Central Daylight Time (GMT -6).

Sincerely yours,
