This is another of many issues I have had with Test Studio communicating with TFS. For whatever reason, Test Studio is consistently deleting an entire folder of tests when they have not been deleted by the client and it does not show the user that the delete is part of the check in. This is extremely frustrating. Why is Test Studio doing this and I can I make it stop?

NOTE: I have already rolled back the delete multiple times, deleted and re-created the local workspace with a fresh instance of the project from source control.

More info: This occurs just occurred again with the following steps with nothing checked out to begin with.

1 - opened an unrelated test list

2 - changed the order of the tests in the test list

3 - selected OK on the edit test list dialog

4 - while trying to check out the test list from source control, test studio popped up the dialog that it lost the connection to source control.

5 - I immediately reconnected the project to source control without doing anything else.

6 - I saved and checked in all changes that Test Studio made when it disconnected.

7 - I viewed the changeset sent by Test Studio to TFS which included the test list change AND the deletion of 32 tests and a test folder even though all of those tests remain on the Test Studio client.

Please advise.

Hello Bryan,

I have followed the repro steps provided but this behavior is not observed on my end. Are you sure you have provided the exact repro steps? Could you provide a sample video demonstration so we can double check? We ned to be able to reproduce this behavior in order to investigate this further.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in advance.

This is all of the steps. Step 4 can be due to the check out of any item where the connection to TFS is lost. Even when I select the "No" answer to the "Do you want to disconnect from source control?" question, it still disconnects from source control and makes a change to the settings file.

How did you re-create step 4?

I have about 10 folders and 200 tests in this project. An entire folder is being deleted and I have to go into TFS and undelete it every time. It's just a good thjing I noticed the deletes otherwise they could have been lost for a long time.

Hеllo Bryan,

Are you using Visual Studio? I am trying to simulate your setup as closely as possible.

Please note that the project automatically checks out when you make a change, so step 4 is not applicable. I don't know how you do this. Can you provide a short video demonstration?

I am using test studio.

Step 4 is crucial. Please perform all steps to recreate the issue.

I recommend simulating network issues by turning off your network connection just before trying to make a change to something.

If you are unable to re-create, perhaps we can set up a call.

Please advise.

Hello Bryan,

I am still trying to reproduce this behavior. However I am not clear how you peform step 4, please note that in Test Studio as soon as you do a change to a source controlled project it gets checked out automatically. I do not understand how you are doing check-out on step 4 when the project is supposed to be checked out already.

However I can see that you have submitted a ticket so you will get the update there.

To simulate step 4:

Open the project (nothing is checked out yet)

Disable network connectivity OR turn off the TFS server

Make a change to something in the project (the check out attempt will fail)

Hello Bryan,

Disabling the network connection is not helping me reproduce this behavior. I am trying to figure out whether this is Test Studio problem at all or this is a problem/setting in the TFS.

What is your timezone and availability so we can take a look at this in a meeting?

Let's try 9 AM Eastern on Wednesday..

Please be prepared to share your screen so I can help you re-create the connectivity issue. It is relatively simple to do and once I have done that I will have to jump off the call to attend to other obligations.

Hello Bryan,

I am recreating the connectivity issue step by disabling my local network, but this will disconnect from the call. I guess it will be best if you can demonstrate this on your machine.

Please clarify: "Disabling the network connection is not helping me reproduce this behavior"

Which behavior? Are you able to re-produce the error message? Please attach so I can verify it is the same one.

If not, then this is where we will need to start the meeting on your machine.

Again, I will not be available for the entire hour so please be prepared to start promptly at 9 with your computer ready to share and demonstrate the loss of connectivity to TFS.

Hello Bryan,

I am reproducing the loss of connectivity to TFS as already told you by disabling my internet connection, if I do this in the middle of a meeting this will disconnect the meeting. The purpose here will be to take a look at your computer why you are experiencing this behavior. Please note that losing connection to TFS may not not be Test Studio issue. In such case you may find the reason why you are getting disconnected from the TFS in first place.

If you are not having a problem re-creating the error, then you should be able to attach the screenshot.

Please note: I am unauthorized to provide access to anyone outside of CONUS to our systems. I have been very clear about what I expect when the meeting starts. Please do not waste my time.

Hello Bryan,

I guess I have found a way how we can proceed. The meeting is supposed to start in an hour, am I right?

If you say so we can start earlier, since I am currently available.
