Hi,

We are playing around with installations of Test Studio for our developers as we are hoping that they will be able to use the run-time licences to run scripts against their own code-base before checking in, not only to see if what they have done is breaking the system they are working on, but also to see how much work they are going to cause me to fix any of the automation scripts.

On the other hand, they have also agreed to help out whenever they can to fix automation scripts, so I have trained them up on the automation tool and they will mainly be working with the coded steps areas of the automation code.

I was hoping to install both versions on each of their machines and for them to check in and out the licences as and when they need them.  However when attempting to install both on a single machine, the installation of the 2nd ( run-time ) executable failed.

Please could you let me know if this is even possible, and if not, what is the best practice for what I am trying to achieve?

Many thanks
Shane

Hello Shane,

It is not possible to activate more than one Test Studio license on a single machine at a time. You cannot install full Test Studio and the Run-Time edition on the same machine at the same time.

However you don't need it. The full Test Studio is the biggest installation package. It includes Telerik Testing Framework and all of the features that the Run-Time edition has. With this package you can use all features of Test Studio.

I will be happy to assist you if you have further questions.

Hi Boyan,

I possibly didn't make my question clear enough.  I basically don't want the developer to be using up a full licence just to run scripts against his code base.  Here is what I am trying to achieve but I'll use single licencves to make things easier:

Licences owned
1 x Full Licence
1 x Run-Time Licence

Scenario - two user, one requires access to both Licences
User A is using the Full Licence to create scripts, user B will use the Run-Time Licence to run scripts
User A deactivates Full Licence as has completed his current project
User B notices that an issue has occured during his script run so wants to fix it by using the Full Licence
User B completes his work and deactivates the Full Licence
User A now starts a new project so reactivates the Full Licence
User B now would like to run scripts using the Run-Time Licence again

Hello Shane,

Yes, your scenario is practicable. However as I mentioned you cannot install full Test Studio and the Run-Time edition on the same machine at the same time. If you do this on different machines then it is possible. On a single machine you will need to delete the installed one and install the other one.
