The recorder was taking up to 60 seconds to connect to browser pop up windows. I have just upgraded to the latest release and now the recorder will not connect to browser pop-ups, I timed it up to 200 seconds and it continued to show the connecting view, after clicking close on the connection it then crashes the browser session. The product is now unusable for a large part of my application and I will have to revert back to the previous version until it is resolved.

Hello Darren,

I tried to reproduce the issue you are experiencing but I was not able to. As soon the pop up appears the recorder connects to it without any delay. I am performing that with the same version of Test Studio that you are currently using 2011.2.1413. I am providing you the following short video especially made for you:

The problem you are experiencing might be due to some local setting on your machine and in order to assist you best you should provide us with access to the location and step by step instructions on how to reproduce the issue.

Hello Darren,

I have watched the video and it came to my attention that somewhere around 23-24th second the URL of the Pop-up changes which seems to be the issue why the recorder can't connect. In order to attach the recorder, manually navigate until the Pop-up appear and wait the URL to change. From Test Studio Recording Tab click the arrow right beneath the Record button and all the active browsers will appear, make sure you choose the one with your Pop-up (see screenshot 1). 

When the step is recorded in order to be properly played back you should change the PopupUrl setting with the last changed Popup's URL and also boost the PopupWaitTimeout (see screenshot 2).

Hi

These tests have been working perfectly as is since last June 2011 without error, something changed in Test Studio to cause this new issue? FYI once I have recorded the opening and closing of the pop up I alter the url to the correct one with partial set and include an increased wait. I will try your suggestion and let you know what happens.

Your suggestion works but is a long way round. However, the recorder has started working again allbeit slowly. I re-installed Test Studio 'Repair'. This call can be closed for the time being.
