A bad picture is worth a thousand long discussions.

A blog by Doug Seven, Executive Vice President at Telerik. (Original post here) While here at Build I’ve been in lots of conversations with customers, other attendees, Microsoft MVP’s, Microsoft Regional Directors, and Microsoft engineering team members. One of the recurring topics that I’ve been talking about ad nausium is the “boxology” diagram of the Windows 8 Platform and Tools (shown here). Now let me tell you, I have drawn a lot of these “marketecture” diagrams in my time and its not easy. These kind of diagrams are never technically accurate. There is simply no easily digestible way to make a technically accurate diagram for a complex system...

    The countdown to BUILD!

Next week is the much-anticipated BUILD developer conference about the future of development on the Windows platform, and the public unveiling of Windows 8. Microsoft says that Windows 95 changed the PC and Windows 8 will “change everything.” Clearly, the hyperbole and hype are already running high. The conference has been under such secrecy that we have been told all phone conversations at Microsoft are being recorded to prevent leaks. Something big is going to happen and Telerik is excited to be part of it. We will have a big crew attending the event eager to watch the events...

RadJumpList for Windows Phone extended: Support for Sticky Header

Besides inheriting all performance improvements coming from RadDataBoundListBox RadJumpList further extends its functionality in our latest Mango Build with Sticky Header support. A sticky header is nothing more but a group header that is statically positioned at the top edge of RadJumpList’s viewport displaying the currently focused data group –just like in the revamped phonebook in Windows Phone Mango. This new functionality brings some small API extensions. There are now two new properties exposed by RadJumpList: IsStickyHeaderEnabled StickyHeaderTemplate The IsStickyHeaderEnabled property determines whether a sticky header is shown or not. This property is set to false by default. The StickyHeaderTemplate property can be used to specify a custom...

    Introducing RadMessageBox for WP7

We are happy to announce an intermediate release with which we officially declare that RadControls for Windows Phone now support Mango. This release includes a few improvements to the control suite, the most important of which is of course our updated list box that still performs better than the default, framework list box.  Aside from improved existing controls we also decided to include a message box that can be customized and restyled as required and that is extremely easy to use. It is also localized. To get a taste of what it is like to use RadMessageBox consider the following example. It demonstrates the...

RadDataBoundListBox goes Mango in terms of scrolling performance (video included)

Back in the days when the first WP7 developer devices were distributed to all enthusiastic developers it became clear that the out-of-the-box scrolling performance delivered by the ListBox control from the toolbox is not satisfying at all. In fact, having some richer data templates and UI virtualization all in one made the control almost unusable which forced many developers to either give up UI virtualization or simply reduce the contents of their templates to boost the scrolling performance and thus improve the end-user experience. Although the Performance Team @ Microsoft have released some nice and helpful hints on how to...
