Only Load Agent Installation

A full installation of Test Studio allows you to create and run load tests. For performance, organizational and resource management reasons, you may wish to configure an additional machine to use only as a load agent. In this case, we recommend installing the Run-Time Edition of Test Studio.

  • Scenario A: An organization wishes to test one or more sites under high load. There is a limit to how much load any one machine can generate, depending on its hardware and software configuration. In order to achieve maximum load generation, they may wish to use two or more machines as load agents, even though they only need one Test Studio installation to record the load tests.
  • Scenario B: A QA engineer records tests at a workstation in San Francisco, but wishes to simulate traffic originating in Amsterdam. The engineer could configure one or more machines located in Amsterdam as Load Agents using the Run-Time Edition in addition to their full Test Studio installation on their workstation in San Francisco.
  • Scenario C: A developer wishes to run a resource intensive load test while they continue to use their workstation for development. They may wish to configure a separate workstation as a Load Agent in order to reduce resource usage on their primary workstation.

After you have downloaded the Test Execution install file, locate it using Windows Explorer and double click it to launch the installer.

Click Read License Agreement, then OK, then I Agree - Continue.

To proceed from the Welcome screen, click the Read LIcense Agreement and then the "I Agree - Continue" button below it.

In order to setup the Telerik Load Testing services during the initial installation of Telerik Test Execution, click the Load Setup button while installing Test Studio. You can also configure your full Test Studio installation as a load agent using the same button in the Test Studio installation.

Note: Test Studio will remember the selection you make here such that in a future upgrade it is not necessary to go through the Load screen again just to keep the same settings.

The Load Setup button is beneath the Customize button.

Select Only Load Agent.

"Only Load Agent" is the third button beneath "Complete" and "Controller and Reporter"

When you select Only Load Agent you will be prompted to configure the connection to the controller your load agent will use.

Input a host name and port number for the controller you want to use.

The two fields are labelled "Controller Host" and "Port"

After Selecting Services

When you have finished configuring the selected services click Next. The main install dialog will return. Finish installing Run-Time Edition normally.
