Day 1 at the office with my Windows 8 Developer Tablet

Today was my first day back in the office for my job at Telerik and I decided that I would try an experiment. I would use only my Windows 8 tablet that I received at the Build conference last week for both my work and play. I put away my Lenovo laptop (for work) and my iPad (for reading in bed) and decided I would use only the tablet for the next few days. The tablet came with a Bluetooth keyboard and dock, so I put that together and started to play around.   The first thing that I realized is that the traditional Windows “Start” menu is gone, completely replaced by...

After //build/: RadControls for WinForms suite is here to stay for desktop development

I suppose that you guys were as much excited about the presentation of Windows 8 as we were. We were also very eager to put our hands on the Developer Preview of Windows 8 and we did so right after the build was released. And here comes the good news – RadControls for WinForms run smoothly on Windows 8! I know what you’re thinking, and you’re wrong.

A blog by Doug Seven, Executive Vice President at Telerik. (Original post here) Its day 2 of the Microsoft Build conference, and if you’ve been keeping up with the hype you are probably thinking that you need to throw away that WPF or Silverlight app you’re building and start fresh with HTML5 or this new XAML that is the future. As a .NET...

Still Missing In Action at BUILD (Day 2)

Yesterday I summarized a few important topics that were auspiciously missing at Microsoft's BUILD conference after the first day of sessions and keynotes. Now as Day 2 nears its end, I thought I'd revisit some of yesterday's observations and see if those topics are still missing. With both keynotes now done, it's pretty safe to assume missing topics now aren't going to get much attention at BUILD 2011. Not Missing Anymore A few things that were missing yesterday did make appearances today: WPF Half of the existing XAML story started to pop-up today. While it didn't make the keynotes, Soma and ScottGu talked about ...

New City, Same Great Conference! Devlink Excels Again

After many years in Nashville, TN, the Devlink conference moved to Chattanooga, TN. John Kellar, the founder and lead organizer, moved to Chattanooga, and as someone who runs conferences in different cities, I can appreciate John wanting to have DevLink follow him. In the days leading up to the event, it was interesting to hear some folks say they weren’t going to go “because it’s not in Nashville”.  Well, I can say first hand, they screwed up!  John and crew once again put on an awesome show!  Over 120 sessions, and open spaces track, and plenty of off-hours activities made this one...
