Building a Windows Phone 7 control from the ground up - Part one - the “Infinite ListBox”

One of the coolest things in every new developer platform is the challenge to master the entire framework in a way that enables you to create high quality, greatly optimized controls that behave in exactly the same way a user would expect to. Yesterday Microsoft announced that more than 300 000 developers have already downloaded the WP7 Developer Tools Beta. Based entirely on Silverlight, phone development has never been easier and more fun than in the Windows Phone 7 environment. With these series of blogs I want to reveal some tricky moments in developing a simple DatePicker control for WP7....

Why doesn’t Telerik offer phone/IM support?

Telerik is well known for the high quality of its support organization and customers are overall quite happy from our responsiveness and helpfulness. Nonetheless, from time to time we’d get inquiries why we are not offering phone support, chat or GoToMeeting as part of our regular support services. After answering several inquiries over the last few months, I decided to blog about it and let everyone know why technical phone support is not offered (at least at present). I’d first like to make a distinction – there is a huge difference between general/pre-sales phone/IM support and technical IM/phone support. We do offer...

    RadControls on iPhone: Part 3

In our final look at the RadControls for ASP.NET running on an iPhone, we'll look at RadSplitter, RadTabStrip, RadToolBar, RadTreeView, RadUpload, and RadWindow. In the first two installments of this series we looked at the other 12 RadControls running on the phone and found most of them to be usable or semi-usable. So far, only RadEditor has earned an unusable rating on the iPhone's mobile Safari. Today we'll pass judgment on the remaining RadControls and then create a quick summary chart that you can reference during your future iPhone development. So without further delay, here's how the final six controls fared: RadSplitter: Semi-usable RadSplitter on an...

    RadControls on iPhone: Part 2

In part one of this three part series, we looked at RadAjax, RadCalendar, RadChart, RadCombobox, RadDock, and RadEditor running on the iPhone. We found most of those controls run relatively well on the iPhone with the exception of RadEditor. In this second installment, we'll look at another batch of RadControls and pass judgment on their usability. Each control will be deemed either usable, semi-usable, or unusable on the iPhone so that you can quickly tweak your applications (or build new ones) for iPhone users. Today's lucky controls are RadGrid, RadInput, RadMenu, RadPanelbar, RadRotator, and RadSpell. During all of my tests with these controls, the...
