Using GridView's Object-Relational Hierarchy with Telerik Open Access ORM

In our previous blog post we showed how to use the new RadGridView Object-Relational Hierarchy with the Entity Framework. The same scenario can be easily implemented with Telerik OpenAccess ORM. The OpenAccess wizard for adding a new DomainModel will help us build the model of the well-known Northwind database in a few easy steps: Once this is done, the auto-generation of the hierarchy is very simple and needs just a few lines of code. We only need the LINQ query to the root object used for a DataSource (in our case “Suppliers”) and then setting AutoGenerateHierarchy to true: NorthwindEntities entities = new NorthwindEntities(); var query =...

Binding to a collection of dynamic objects with Grid Extension for ASP.NET MVC

Great news everybody! With its latest version and the addition of MVC3 specific build, you can now bind the MVC Grid to a collection of dynamic objects quite easily. Note that we will be using the new Razor view engine for extra fun. Just declare the View’s model to be IEnumerable<dynamic> 1: @using Telerik.Web.Mvc.UI 2: @model IEnumerable<dynamic> 3: @( 4: Html.Telerik().Grid(Model) 5: .Name("Grid") 6: .Columns(columns...

Expression Descriptors in Q3 2010 for WPF & Silverlight

Another four months have gone by and another awesome release of RadControls has arrived! One of the exciting new features in this release are the so-called 'Expression Descriptors'. Previously, whenever our clients wanted to filter data but needed even more control than our good old FilterDescriptor could provide, they had to subclass it and override some of its methods. Even though that approach works, it is tedious and cumbersome. And, as much as LINQ Expressions rock, having to manually generate expression trees by hand... yuck! The new FilterDescriptor<T> allows you to directly plug a predicate that determines which items are filtered. You...

Bringing User Experience to the next level in RadGridView for WinForms

In the upcoming Q3 2010, we bring the extensibility of RadGridView to the next level. We will add the ability to create and replace the row type for all rows stored in the rows collection which will give our customers almost unlimited control over the customization and design of the control. The new feature gives developers the opportunity to extend the default behavior of all descends of the GridViewRowInfo class. Here is how it works: Let’s say that you want to create an expandable filter row which has extended user-friendly UI for filtering: In Q3 2010 this will be possible with a few simple...

RadGrid for ASP.NET AJAX client-side databinding to OData services

RadGrid's client-side databinding capabilities got boosted to a new level with the Q3 2010 release of Telerik RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. RadGrid now supports automatic databinding to OData web services. For those of you who have never heard, OData (short for Open Data) is a data exchange protocol that enables data transactions to be carried over standard web protocols (HTTP, Atom, and JSON). OData exposes your data over the web to a variety of consumers, building on technology that is widely adopted. With the Q3 2010 release, we have added automatic client-side databinding support for OData services. To configure RadGrid for binding to an OData service, you...
