Hi All,

I'm in the process of investigating how to move my fairly large web application from asp.net webforms to a JS approach.  I can see massive benefits but being a one man band there is a lot of learning that seems to be needed.  So I am looking for a few short cuts to help iron out some of the leg work that will be needed.

My constant gripe (and believe me I bore myself with this one!) with control providers is the lack of any good form generation component, yes everyone has the components of forms but no great tools for good form generation.  Today I stumbled over Angular-Formly and it seems to go a long way to generating a form from a model schema,  I am certain that there will be limitations but I'm finding that there is no system without limitations.  Formly appears to allow for custom templates for controls can be added in, it seems that any controls can be added to the system so I am wondering whether Kendo controls could be added.

Given the above I have a few of questions

1) Has anyone tried this or any similar products in conjunction with Kendo UI?  Any pointers or suggestions?

2) Given the obvious benefits of having Formly Kendo UI templates what is the likelihood that Telerik will add and then maintain some?

3) I assume that there is nothing built into Kendo UI in the pipeline that would do the same thing?

Best Regards

 Jon

Hi Jon,

In fact we're looking into enabling a similar story in our platform. This is going to be a long-term initiative though and we cannot commit to deadlines at the moment.

As for Formly - we have not done specific tests against it. We would rather focus on our own solution. We will keep sharing more info throughout the year. At the moment we cannot commit to this initiative.

It'd still be interesting if you share the ideal user-scenario that you'd like to see covered by a form/code-generation tool.

Hi Nikolay

I'm pleased to hear that something is in the pipeline.

As to the ideal user-scenario I think that it would be interesting to see an integration of the form generation with a more global site generation tool.   I'd prefer to be able to spend a small amount of time putting admin, lists etc of a site together and more on the more visual charting etc elements.  Having a form generation tool tightly integrated with the Kendo controls would be a bonus.

Regards

Jon

Hi,

I'm also very interested in such a tool. Now I found in the announcement of q3 2015, that there exists now a saffolding tool for Kendo .NET. Is it also planned to implement such a tool for Kendo with Angular?

 Thanks!

Hello,

the initiative Nikolay pointed to will most likely deal with Angular directives, too.
