Kendo UI for jQuery

Coming in 2022 & 2023

The Kendo UI for jQuery Team is excited to announce the roadmap for what we plan to deliver over the next few releases.

Your feedback is a huge factor in these plans. After all, our mission is to make your life easier. We encourage you to keep sharing your thoughts, plans and ideas for what next you would like to see developed in the jQuery component library in our dedicated feedback portal.

The items below are what we feel comfortable announcing, but there is more on our radar. Check back periodically for updates.

Kendo UI for jQuery

New Fluent Theme

New feature R3 2022

The Microsoft Fluent Design System is a popular design language for developing desktop and web applications alike. Based on current customer feedback, as well as the popularity of the Fluent Design System, the Kendo UI for jQuery team will introduce the new Kendo UI Fluent theme.

This new Fluent theme has been designed from the ground-up to ensure a natural fit with any application targeting the Fluent design system. As with all other Kendo UI themes, the new Kendo UI Fluent theme can be used by including a single reference to the Fluent theme's CSS file.

New jQuery Signature Component

New component R3 2022

The new Kendo UI for jQuery Signature component aims at providing end-users with an area to draw their signature within any jQuery-based application. Users can interact with the jQuery Signature component by using both their mouse and finger tips (if viewed on a touch-enabled device).

New jQuery SplitButton Component

New component R3 2022

The new jQuery SplitButton component creates a button element that is "split" in half, one side representing a standard button and another half representing a drop down that appears when clicked. The Kendo UI for jQuery SplitButton component is perfect for scenarios where requirements call for a button that can be clicked and provide a standard button click behavior, as well as select from a list of additional options related to the button action.

New jQuery DropDownButton Component

New component R3 2022

Previously only available as a built-in component in the jQuery ToolBar, the new DropDownButton is a standalone jQuery UI component which displays a drop down list when the main button element is clicked. This expands the list of available Button UI components found within the Kendo UI for jQuery library.

PivotGrid v2: Local Data Binding

Improvement R3 2022

The Kendo UI for jQuery PivotGrid v2, the refresh of the jQuery PivotGrid component that is actively being built from the ground-up, will receive the ability to locally bind data to the PivotGrid. This means developers can bind arrays or other JavaScript object collections to the PivotGrid component without relying on OLAP cubes or similar structures on the server-side.

Compact Grid for jQuery

Improvement R3 2022

The Kendo UI for jQuery Grid will receive a compact Grid mode with an upcoming release. The Compact Grid feature removes unneeded whitespace within the elements of the jQuery Grid to make all UI elements as compact as possible. The end result is a jQuery Data Table with more data displayed within the same dimensions, letting users view large sets of data displayed at once without the need for scroll to see more. This functionality can also be known as a high-density Grid.

Grid Improvements

We recognize that the Data Grid is among the most widely used components in the jQuery component library. For that reason, we constantly monitor feedback, support, standards and UX trends to ensure the Data Grid remains the best in class. Here is what we are working on:

  • Improving the user experience when grouping by hiding the column that is currently grouped
  • Offering a configuration option to disable the built-in column menu
  • Updating the behavior when the last remaining data item on the last page of the Grid is removed
  • And more

GridLayout and StackLayout Components

New component Customer Feedback
Take the hassle out of layout by letting Kendo UI for jQuery handle it for you. GridLayout and StackLayout are two new components that help you arrange HTML elements in a grid or a horizontal/vertical line. These components help developers migrate from desktop to the web since they mimic the GridPanel and StackPanel components used in Windows development.

Dock Manager Component

New component
The Dock Manager component helps you mimic the familiar Windows experience in which users can arrange and resize a collection of panes to their liking. This new component will help you provide a great UX in very little time.

Theme Improvements

As UI design requirements become more complex, our users need more customizability in our themes on the component level. Throughout 2022, we will be introducing enhancements to the way individual components work with themes to make it easier to use your own design system. These will be a set of common options that will help define the colors, size and shape of individual components.
