We are contemplating upgrading an existing site from Release 2008 Qtr 3 to 2011 Qtr 3 and are trying the test dlls now. The initial experience is one that a lot of the skins have changed and a lot of functionality is not working between versions. Is there help on line available to dela with the 3 year upgrade?

THanks

Thomas

Hi Thomas,

Could you please specify which RadControls are using - RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX, or RadControls Classic?

If you are using RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX, yes, AJAX controls have received major face lift in Q1 2009 and all the skins and rendering of most of the controls were changed. Please find more detailed information on the subject in the following sticky forum thread:
All RadControls Q3 2008 Skins Are Now Compatible with the Q1 2009 Release

Regarding the functionality incompatibilities, all newer versions should be backwards compatible with previous versions, if there is any breaking change in the control it is listed in Changes and Backwards compatibility articles of each control in our online documentation.

If you are using RadControls Classic and are trying to migrate to RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX you can find a guidance on how to migrate from Classic to AJAX version of the control in each controls section under the article with name "Migration from Rad<Control> for ASP.NET to ASP.NET AJAX", e.g.:
Migration from RadGrid for ASP.NET to ASP.NET AJAX
