I am using the latest dev build to get around another issue that the input manager is having, but when i try to save my form i get a message saying
Error: Sys.InvalidOperationException: Component 'SharedCalendar' was not found.
but the calendar is at the top of the page. the controls that use the calendar are not visible though,

Can you try updating to RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Q3 SP2 and see if the issue persists? If yes, I suggest that you send us runnable project/code so we could reproduce the error locally and try finding a resolution for you.
