When I delete all the content in the editor and then add something else I get a span tag with a background color added around the new content.

Hi John,
Could you please, test the default example of the latest editor and see if you are able to reproduce the reported problem?
If the problem exists only inside your project, please open a support ticket and send a sample working project along with step-by-step instructions how to reproduce the problem? If possible please attach a video demonstrating the problem.
