After successfully installing RadControls_for_ASP.NET_AJAX_2009_2_826_trial.msi in Windows Vista Ultimate SP2 I took the exact same msi and tried to install it on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2, but this time, after seeming to start fine, it puts up the following error pop-up:

The cabinet file 'media1.cab' required for this
installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This
could indicate a network error, an error reading
from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this
package.

Retry   Cancel

No amount of Retry attempts helps.

Please don't tell me to download a fresh copy.  This is the exact same MSI file that had zero problems installing on Vista SP2, so I am 100% confident that the msi is not corrupt.

None of the steps you recommended (except I did not download a fresh copy of the MSI) worked.

Finally, out of desperation, I put the msi on a CD-ROM and tried the install again and it worked.

Please add what I did to your list of recommended things to try, at least when it comes to installing on Windows Server 2003 R2 Service Pack 2.

If I get a chance, I'll try to repeat the install on Windows Server 2008 R1 SP1 (32-bit) and Windows Server 2008 R2 (64-bit) to see if they suffer the same fate as Win2k3R2Sp2.  Since Windows Server 2008 R1 SP1 (32-bit) is essentially "Windows Vista Server" it should probably work.   I see that, for all intents and purposes, Windows Server 2008 R2 is "Windows 7 Server", all bets are off until I try the install in a VM.

  1. burn the msi file to a CD-ROM.
  2. install from the CD-ROM.

The above worked for me.

Good luck.
