Our client is running Sitefinity 3.1 in IE 8.0.7600 (in compatibility view) and when she edits a Generic Content control, all of the content editing icons appear briefly but then disappear just as the editor is fully loaded (see screenshot). The scroll bar also flickers.
This does not occur in Firefox 3.6.3 or actually even in IE 8.0.6001. I have obviously just told our client to use Firefox for the time being, but I would like to be able to give her an answer as to why this is happening when it was previously not a problem.

Hello Rachel,
Actually Sitefinity 3.1 was released 2007 and I am not sure that Sitefinity and the RadEditor that comes with this version of the CMS can properly support newer browsers in all scenarios.
You can try to upgrade to a newer version - say Sitefinity 3.5 and get benefit from the new controls and large number of fixes. The upgrade instructions for Sitefinity are common and they can be found here
