Hi
One of my developers just got an email stating the following:
Our team decided to create a brand new RadPageView control which is designed
to replace and extend the functionality of both RadTabStrip and RadPanelBar.
Furthermore, it will provide greater flexibility and better performance than
its ancestors. The trend our team would like to follow is enhancing
RadPageView and discontinuing RadTabStrip and RadPanelBar. Please note that
from Q3 2011 the obsolete controls will be removed from our suite.

I am in the last phases of a new site that uses both controls.

1) is RadPanelBar and RadTabStrip gone in 3rd quarter?
2) where is the sample for converting functionality?

Phil,

I'd check where that email came from.

Whilst I don't know that telerik aren't planning to do what the email claims, I can say it is very unlikely.

Why?

Why would they just mail your colleague and not everyone?

Then there are lots of other reasons like, well, for a start there already exists a RadPageView; it's a sub-control of the RadMultiPage. Then there's the fact that there has been no announcement of the fact in a public place. The fact that it's claimed that they are simply going to discontinue a control with no period of it being deprecated doesn't ring true.

And how could one control replace the RadTabStrip and RadPanelBar combined?

Naa. Wait 'til you get the word from a grown up at telerik towers if you want, but I'd just forget the whole thing.

Hi:

It was mailed per an issue.  I cut and paste part of their e-mail.

Hi Phil,

I already answered your other forum post and as I mentioned there the RadPanelBar as well as the RadTabStrip control will not be removed from our suite of products. I am not sure about the sender of the e-mail that you got but it does not sound to be any of the Telerik team.

Greetings,

Hi:

It was from the Stefan of the Telerik Windows Forms controls.

Hello Phil,

Thank you for clarifying that. In fact the reply that you received from Stefan is valid for the WINFORMS only. You can refer to this blog post for more information on the matter. However, if you are using the ASP.NET AJAX controls this is NOT valid.

All the best,
