Hi, I have a question concerning the CHM help files:

Whenever I open the help file, it is displayed in a very small window. I have to resize this window every time I open the help file, because its size and position are not stored (which is very annoying).
Is there a possibility to change the behaviour for the current help files, so that the window size and position is stored?

If not, would it be possible to improve this for future help files?

I have read that the producer of the help file might be able to change this behaviour by setting an option in the CHM file (e.g. see here: http://help.lockergnome.com/windows2/save-permanently-position-size-chm-help-ftopict21462.html).

Thanks and best regards,
Martin

BTW: don't know if this is relevant, but this happens on Windows XP Professional with SP3.

Hello Martin Bischoff,

I think we have that option turned on by default. I would suggest you go and delete this file:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user_name]\Application Data\Microsoft\HTML Help\hh.dat

It keeps the window settings of the CHM files that you open and will be recreated next time you open a CHM file with the size and position that you set.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately this did not help.

The file hh.dat is recreated every time I open the help file. But it seems the last used size/position is not saved to the file.

Whenever I open the help file, it will use the default size and position which is unusable as you can see in the following image:

Any other ideas?

Hello Martin Bischoff,

I've attached a modified version of the CHM wrapper. It should also start in a bigger window. Please replace your local file and give it a try.
Don't hesitate to write us back if the problem persist. I am sorry for the inconvenience caused.

All the best,
