Hi Jon,
You can customize checkboxes by hiding the default checkboxes and styling the element after it. This is possible only if you are using item template with custom checkboxes and labels. You can use our Button - Radios and Checkboxes by applying some of our inbuilt skins, or create your own custom checkboxes.
