Why do the demos use the asp:ScriptManager instead of telerik:RadScriptManager?

Is it preferred to use asp's.. in some cases?

You could use either ASP:ScriptManager or RadScriptManager in your web pages depending on your preferences. However, I suggest you review the advantages of the RadScriptManager described in the below articles in order to make a better decision for yourself:
