Hi,

I just bought the RADControls and I have a quick question on the licensing per developer.  I have two development machines; one at home and one in the office.  Will there be any problem with me using the control on both machines?

Thanks
Brian

Hello bri,

Please refer to the licensing section from the purchase FAQ here where you can find the answer for your question.

Yep ... That is what I reviewed and that's what confused me.

"Our Developer Licenses allow 1 developer to work with the design-time product. If you purchase a license for multiple products, i.e. Telerik Premium Collection for .NET license, still only 1 developer would be able to use the Telerik tools.

The Developer Licenses are perpetual and have NO deployment limitations - they allow the use of our controls for an unlimited number of applications spanning various servers and domains. In contrast to competitive products, the Telerik Developer License works WITHOUT license keys and you can be certain that you will never get a license key error."

The above doesn't address my question.  Can I install and use the RadControl on my home and office machines or just one?

Hello Brian,

Yes, you can install and use the RadControls on your home and office machines as far as you are the only developer that uses the controls.

For your reference here is the paragraph in our license agreement that covers your case:
------------
2. DEVELOPER LICENSE
The SOFTWARE is licensed per Developer seat. This means that each individual using or otherwise accessing the SOFTWARE for development purposes must obtain the right to do so by purchasing an individual product license.

You may make copies on more than one computer, as long as the use of the SOFTWARE is by the same licensed developer. The SOFTWARE is in "use" on a computer when it is loaded into temporary memory (i.e. RAM) or installed into permanent memory (e.g. hard disk or other storage device) of that computer for development purposes. If you install the SOFTWARE on a network server for the sole purpose of internal distribution among licensed developers this is not considered "use" of the SOFTWARE, so long as each individual developer has purchased a license.
------------

I hope this answers your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Sincerely yours,
Lin

I have a follow up question to this ...

I also have the licensed version on my pc at home... and also I've installed the package on a test server remotely (which is physically at my client's location and belongs to the client) in order for me to have a dev environment there.

Assuming, I need an environment on their test server and from which I generate the build/publish package.

I'd like to make sure no one who has access to this test server can copy the telerik controls and use them somewhere else for their personal use... My question to you:
1. Although I deleted the exe which installs the telerik controls, can they still copy the files/dlls and still be able to use my licensed version?
2. if yes, How can I prevent them from using them ( other than removing completely my test environment there) ?

Basically, I want to make sure anyone who has access to this server do not use the controls without my knowledge?

Thanks

Hello Cyril,

Thank you for contacting us!

To your inquiry, if the client have the rights to browse files on that server, then they'll be able to get the DLLs, even though the exe has been deleted.

In case you are referring to the end-users of your application, those guys would not be able to access the DLL files.

I hope this clears things up. Let me know if I am missing something.

I'm referring to other Developers who can access my licensed telerik controls . In other words, I would like to know, if they can extract the DLLs into another environment and still use it to develop another project using the telerik controls ?

Given this is not my environment, can I install a trial version on their server and use it to develop like normally?
However, for publishing , I guess I won't have any choice but to create the published package from my home computer ( with the fully licensed telerik) and then upload the package on their server, right?

So if i understand correctly, the Trial Package is the same as the Fully Licensed package except that the dll will add a trial message from time to time in runtime, right? For Strictly developping, I can use the Trial license on their server... but when it comes time to publish a version, i would have to use my fully licensed one to create the package, correct?

Thanks
