ASP.NET Ajax Controls in ASP.NET MVC - Announcing the sample application

I am glad to announce that yesterday we released a public sample application built with RadControls for ASP.NET Ajax, ASP.NET MVC and Telerik OpenAccess. You can check the online demo, or download the source code. This application is a basic online forum which uses RadControls in ASP.NET and demonstrates integration with ASP.NET MVC. Here are a few screens from the forum: The "home" page (uses RadTreeView, RadGrid and RadMenu) The "new thread" page (shows RadEditor)

RadComboBox and ASP.NET AJAX 4.0 Preview – using client-side templates and webservice load on demand

Edit: The following content applies to ASP.NET Ajax 4.0 Preview 4. Download the project that uses the latest MS Ajax 4.0 Preview 6 from Here Many of you have asked us, the ASP.NET support officers, whether RadComboBox supports templates when bound to WebService. Using the latest official .NET Framework (3.5) the answer was ‘no’. Fortunately, this is possible with the client-side templates introduced in the next version of the .NET Framework – 4.0. Currently it is in a Preview stage and you can find its roadmap here.  We have already demonstrated how to use the new client-side templates in RadTreeView and RadGrid.

Encode and Decode strings using JavaScript

In order for a string to be read from all computers sometimes it is useful to encode and decode it. This can be easily achieved using the JavaScript built-in escape() and unescape() methods. Both the escape() and the unescape() methods have the same argument – the string which will be escaped or unescaped. The escape() method returns a string value (in Unicode format) that represents the encoded contents of the function argument. All spaces, punctuation, accented characters, and any other non-ASCII characters are replaced with %xx encoding, where xx is equivalent to the hexadecimal number representing the character. For example, a space is returned as "%20". Additionally, having...

Encode and Decode URI(Uniform Resource Identifier) using JavaScript

The current article is taken from https://developer.mozilla.org/ In some scenarios it is useful to encode and decode the URI. For example: To avoid unexpected requests to the server, you should call encodeURIComponent on any user-entered parameters that will be passed as part of a URI. For example, a user could type "Thyme &time=again" for a variable comment. Not using encodeURIComponent on this variable will give comment=Thyme%20&time=again. Note that the ampersand and the equal sign mark a new key and value pair. So instead of having a POST comment key equal to "Thyme &time=again", you have two POST keys, one equal to "Thyme " and another...

Understanding Where to Set Connection Strings in OpenAccess

When you start working with OpenAccess, one of the first tasks you're going to face is the need set a connection string to your database. And odds are, the connection string you're going to start with is not going to be the connection string your going to use on your production server. It might not even be the connection string your going to use in your test environment. Point is, you need to be able to store multiple connection strings and easily "cue" OpenAccess to use the correct connection details at runtime. Fortunately, OpenAccess makes this easy.   UNDERSTANDING OPENACCESS CONNECTIONS First things first:...
