Selects the data encoding scheme for the QR Code payload. Choosing the most specific Modes.CodeMode yields higher capacity. For example, set Numeric when the content contains only digits (e.g. "0123456789012") to store more characters than Alphanumeric or Byte. Use Kanji for Shift JIS Kanji pairs to benefit from optimized compression.

Definition

Namespace:Telerik.Web.UI.Barcode

Assembly:Telerik.Web.UI.dll

Syntax:

C#
public enum Modes.CodeMode

Fields

Encodes the QR alphanumeric subset (0–9 A–Z space $ % * + - . / : ). Best when data is mostly uppercase and digits: "INV-2024/07", "HTTP://EXAMPLE.COM". More compact than Byte, less than Numeric. Use uppercase to gain capacity; lowercase forces Byte mode instead.

C#
Alphanumeric = 2

Encodes arbitrary bytes (UTF‑8 / ISO 8859‑1 fallback) allowing any character but with lower capacity than Numeric or Alphanumeric. Choose when the string contains symbols outside the alphanumeric set (e.g. accented letters, punctuation, binary blobs). Example: product description "Café №42".

C#
Byte = 0

Specialized compression for double‑byte Kanji (Shift JIS). Use only when the entire content consists of encodable Kanji pairs; mixed text may require Byte. Provides higher efficiency for Japanese Kanji than generic byte encoding. Example: "漢字情報".

C#
Kanji = 3

Optimizes capacity for digits 0–9 only (three digits packed into 10 bits). Use for numeric identifiers: order numbers "0001234567", GTIN fragments, ticket codes. Provides the highest data density of the standard modes. Falls back to Byte automatically if non-digits are present (validation should prevent this).

C#
Numeric = 1
