Greetings,

I have been trying to solve a Telerik reference problem now too long.  Hoping to be done this once and forever.

Recently we installed the latest AJAX controls (RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX Q2 2009).  Since then, the developers sharing this project through Visual SourceSafe have not been able to get the controls to render.  This would appear to be a simple fix by adding the two references:

Telerik.Web.Design.dll
Telerik.Web.UI.dll

... but it hasn't been that simple.  Two out of three developers will have no problem and then a 3rd will not be able to get the controls to render in design mode.  Resetting the dlls works sometimes and then other times it doesn't.  We used one working instance of the project on one developers machine to clean out SourceSafe (in case that was the problem).  Then the other developers downloaded the clean version only to their dismay.

Controls may render one minute and then the next time they open VS 2008, the controls don't render in design.

Are there any known VS 2008 IDE integration issues with Telerik?

Thanks

You are not alone. I just described the exact same problem with my development team...

Telerik better devote some resources to resolving this issue quickly instead of dismissing it as user error or providing some ridiculously complex workaround.

Hi,

I have posted the same response in the linked forum thread.

This error may occur if you are using Visual Studio 2008 without service pack installed. The details about this error message are outlined in this blog post.

If this is not the case (you have installed VS2008 SP1) please check the following:
  1. Telerik.Web.Design.dll  2009.2.701.20 is installed in GAC.
  2. The version of the Telerik.Web.UI.dll assembly (which should be in the bin folder of your web site) is exactly the same - 2009.2.701.20

Albert
