I've deployed the RadEditorMOSS 4.5.6 solution into my WSS 3.0 environment successfully and the control appears to operate properly in every respect with one very notable exception. It does not replace the default rich-text editor for list items.

I have retracted, deleted and redeployed the solution and of course performed an IIS reset after deployment and before activating the feature of the site. The RadEditor webpart becomes available and appears fully funtional. I can imbed the RadEditor into a webpart and it operates as expected. It does not however replace the rich-text editor.

What am I missing. I have also installed the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX 2009 2 826 Trial as well on the same server and these controls appear to render and operate according to the docs (I have of course not tested every one).

I then in desperation built a MOSS environment and deployed the RadEditor there. Same results. Fully functional with the excetion that the default rich-text editor is not replaced...

What am I missing? It's honestly the reason that I went seeking the Telerik controls, The SharePoint editor is sadly very lacking and I need it replaced. Any direction at all in this regard would be greatly appreciated.

Christian Brown

Hi Christian,

The first time you activate a RadEditor feature, you must be logged as an Administrator user. This is required, because the editor needs to update the default list editing template by copying a file - from \TEMPLATE\FEATURES\RadEditorFeature\RadEditorList.ascx to \TEMPLATE\CONTROLTEMPLATES\RadEditorList.ascx.

The file is copied by the IIS worker process, which in turn is impersonating the currently logged in user. That is why you need to be logged in as an Administrator to be able to copy the file. Once the file is copied, any user can activate/deactivate the RadEditor features.

Also make sure that you execute iisreset command after you activate the features for the first time.
