Hi,
I've recently tried to update our RAD editor from the Lite version to the Full-Featured version, but the installation failed due to features still being installed on the server from the Lite version. The instructions to upgrade were vague and didn't cover this, but can you confirm that the two features to remove are :-

RadEditorFeature
RadEditorFeatureIE

..and should be removed by using the following command :-

stsadm -o uninstallfeature –name RadEditorFeature

stsadm -o uninstallfeature –name RadEditorFeatureIE

Should the features be deactivated by web application first?

Thanks,
Jason.

Hello Jason Brownhill,

Could you confirm that you reviewed the following online help article: Upgrade Instructions from version 4.x to version 5.x.

What I suggest you to do is:
1. Deactivate all the features, which are related to RadEditor.
2. Uninstall the control: Uninstalling RadEditor.
3. Follow the instructions described in the upgrade article.

Best wishes,

Hi Stanimir,
 Thanks for the response back.

I can confirm that YES I have read the upgrade instructions from version 4.x to 5.x. I never actually saw the error I was getting when I went through this in my test environments. Kind of annoying :o/

The instructions in the link relating to uninstalling RAD editor metion that they should only be followed if not upgrading to a NEWER version, but in this case we are - so some of the information shouldn't be followed I imagine.

Previously when it worked I hadn't seen the issue I was getting. Deactivating the feature could be an issue though - esspecially on hundreds of site collections when I'm not sure where it has been activated (and thus not uninstalling correctly when I remove the solution from sharepoint).

It's strange that no one else has seen this issue on the forums before about those two features, which leads me to believe we might be stuck somewhat. If you've any other advice or help on this I'd appreciate it.

Thanks,
Jason.

Hello Jason Brownhill,

Normally there is no need to disable the features. However some times there might be problem with this. Could you check in SharePoint logs or in the system logs if there is some additional information about the error, which is causing the problem?
