I have 2008.1.515 installed on my dev machine, as well as the live server. I downloaded the "Automatic installation" (the _dev.exe) file, and the "DLL and scripts only" (the _dev_hotfix.zip) file.
After reading the update notes, it said that I only need to replace the hotfix files into my existing projects.
Then, what about any new project? Should I install the "Automatic installation" files as well, besides the hotfix?
Thanks

Hello Raymond,
Automatic installation:
- install the suite in a separate folder (..\RadControls for ASPNET AJAX Q2 2008 for instance)
- will preserve any previous versions installed (due to the condition above)
- register your controls in the toolbox
- install Live Demos
Manual installation is the opposite. You should handle the desired operation on your own.
Kind Regards,
Daniel

Is there any properties/methods that may show the version in use on the web page? With it I can ensure the correct version is in use.

Hello Raymond,
That's an excellent question!
You can find version stamp when you examine the HTML output of the page. I've attached a part of a screen capture for your convenience.
You can also review the KB article here explaining the upgrading process.

By studying the source is a way to identify the version. I would suggest to add a property, say Version, in the next release. ^_^
I have read the article you mentioned several times. It is about updating existing project (by replacing the files in the BIN folder). What about any new web project?
I do not want to keep two version of RadControl on my computer, as well as on the server.
I have downloaded the manual installation zip file (not the hotfix). I also found an articles about installing it (but it was written in 2006). In the article, I need to create folders under \wwwroot\. However, with the latest Radcontrol for ASP.NET AJAX, all files/folders are under c:\Program Files\Telerik. Should I simple replace all the files there?
Thanks
Raymond

Ray,
You can either use the .exe to install the new version on the dev machine as well as on the server or extract the hotfix. Then on a new project or existing one, add reference to the Bin/Telerik.Web.UI.dll or Bin35/Telerik.Web.UI.dll (for the .Net 3.5 projects). That's all!
Hope that helps!

As I mentioned, I don't want two (or more) versions of radcontrols exist on the save machine (either dev or server). Should I install the new version over the old one (by specifying the installation folder as the old one)?
Can I unzip the files in the ZIP and then overwrite the existing ones? It seems much straight forward. However, there seems no (updated) document related to the installation of the zip file (or I missed it)?
Thanks

Hello Raymond,
Extracting the hotfix is the easier approach. You can extract that over the RadControls installation folder to override the old .dll-s. Then update the references or make sure the new versions are applied re-adding the references in Visual Studio.
If you go for the installation, we recommend uninstalling the old version first. If there are some files remaining (although the uninstaller should take care of that) please remove those manually and then proceed with the new version installer.

Hello Raymond,
You can use the default/recommended from the installer folder.
