Unable to drop and drop Telerik Controls

Going through the Rad Controls Courseware and I am unable to drag and drop any Telerik controls into design or source mode on a web page.  It does nothing, I have updated the controls using Visual Studio 12.  I can manually copy and paste the code and it works but drag and drop does not.  Also unable to add child nodes to a RadToolBar I can add child nodes for a RadMneu but even those do not show when running the website just the parent nodes no drop downs. Telerik AJAX Manager v2013 1.220.40  Any idea why I can not drag and drop Telerik Controls?

Hello Stefan,

Can you please clarify if you are not able to drag and drop controls from the toolbox to the design view or you are trying to move controls in the design view? I tested the scenario that you describe and I got no issues when adding different items to the RadToolBar control. Here you can find a short video demonstrating that.

I am having the exact same problem that Stefan is having, but my issue is happening with Visual Studio 2010.

Here is the scenario:

Yesterday I installed the trial of the software, and was able to then add controls on to the page. Today after a shutdown and restart, I was unable to drag and drop a control onto the page I'm trying to work on.

To reference your video, the step where you are dragging the control onto the design mode page, it shows as a circle with a line through it and when i drag and drop using the source view it does nothing.

At first i tried using the Toolbox configurator to re-install the telerik controls and it still didn't resolve the issue, it just crashed my visual studio (i let it run for 30 mins before I had to kill the process and restart visual studio)

I found the "solution" on your form where the people have deselected the tools from the toolbox and then re-selected them that worked, but I don't want to have to deselect and re-add the tools into the tool box on every re-load of visual studio.

That is the only thing that worked for me.  I had to remove anything telerik related from my computer HD and REG and then i reinstalled just the AJAX controls.  That got it working I havn't installed any of the other products I bought I'm worried I will run into the same problem and don't want to start over.  So my guess is we had a bad install since mine works now.

Hi guys,

Have you tried to clearing the Toolbox cache, which is created by Visual Studio? The following steps will help you to clear the toolbox cache:

1. Close all Visual Studio instances;
2. Open Windows Explorer and navigate to the directory %localappdata%\Microsoft\VisualStudio\[VisualStudio Version]
3. Make sure that the option 'Show hidden files...' is selected in the Windows Explorer options;
4. Delete all *.tbd files;
5. Start Visual Studio and use the Toolbox Configurator wizard to set the required controls version.

Please let us know if the issue still occurs.
