Hey there,
I am using RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX with Mono. Acutally I cannot update to a newer version of the controls since the 2.0 version is no longer supported. Is it on the schedule to have a new version compatible with Mono? And if so when is that going to happen?

Thanks for the information and best regards

Ferdinand

Hello Ferdinand,

The new Xamarin company founded by Miguel De Icaza a few months ago took over the Mono project and declares that its future strategy would be to develop Mono for mobile devices mainly (Mono Touch, Mono Droid, etc.) The future of the ASP.NET Mono project remains unclear and it is uncertain whether it will be expanded/updated progressively.

Our official statement with regards to Mono support is that we do support Mono 2.4+ up to 2.10+ with the .NET 2 version of RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX (see this page for reference), 2010.3.1317 being the last of our AJAX release that includes .NET 2 assemblies. Provided the present situation, I do hesitate the bugs we reported will be addressed soon, if at all. I apologize if this is not good news for you, however I hope that you understand our position, given the circumstances.

Kind regards,
Sebastian

Hi Jefferson,

In the last years there isn't huge demand for integration with Mono, and so we dropped the initiative and the Mono support. It seems that the Mono project may have been renewed, yet we do not support it anymore. Perhaps some (or even all) things will work, but we have not tested that and we cannot guarantee compatibility.

If you are looking into hosting a web app under Linux, I can suggest you take a look at .NET Core and its Linux support. We also offer ASP.NET Core components, so you may find that useful as well.

Best regards,
Rumen

Hi,

Web Forms and Core are two different frameworks and there is nothing in common since their architectures are different.

Microsoft does not offer a conversion tool from WebForms to MVC or Core, but you can learn more on the migration steps in the following blog posts: Migrating Old ASP.NET Applications to .NET Core5 Factors to Consider When Converting a WebForms App to ASP.NET MVC Core and Best practice to migrate Web Forms to ASP.NET Core MVC.

The Telerik UI for ASP.NET AJAX and Telerik UI for ASP.NET Core suites are mature and the control parity is quite good so you should not experience problems to migrate the grids, data visualization and form editing components from one framework to another.

Rumen
