I am sorry to hear you have been experiencing such issues and am glad to hear you managed to get things worked out.
The Control Panel updates itself each time we release a new version and it failed in doing so in your case. The more peculiar thing is the fact it did not give you a chance to send us an error report.
It would be most helpful if you could send us a stack trace or any other details you might get if you experience the issue again.
