Are the asp.net ajax controls compatible with the mobi controls (see below link), or do they have built in features where mobi wouldn't be needed?

Hi William,
We haven't tested with mobi so far therefore I cannot say whether the asp.net controls are compatible or not. However, I don't see any reason why not so.
You can check the ASP.NET controls online demos under tablet device to find out whether the controls are inline with your requirements or not.
If you have any specific mobile requirements that are not covered by the ASP.NET controls I would recommend that you take a look at KendoUI, our mobile friendly JavaScript widgets.

There is no "tablet device" under the ASP.NET controls online demos

This is correct, there is no tablet section under the online demos. What I meant that you test them under actual tablet device so that you can find out whether they work or not for your scenario.
