In terms of the CSS and what to override etc. I believe the CSS Skin File Selectors documentation article is the best one for you to read. Alternatively you can also play around a bit with the Visual Style Builder, create a custom skin, and download the skin file to see what exactly goes into a RadComboBox Skin.

Can you please specify the version of the RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX you are using when you open a new forum thread, that would help us in identifying your problem and answering you on topic.
Currently there is no detailed sprite guides for older releases, though such guides are planned for the next major release due in few months.
If I see correctly you have a developer license for Q3 2009 and only Q3 2009 downloads. On the other hand you've sent a project that has a Q2 2008 assembly inside. Can you please specify for which version you want to do a custom RadComboBox skin and your requirement how it should look like (like a screenshot or a mock-up) and I will gladly help you do it.
