Hi all,

I have to ask this and maybe a telerik Admin can answer this as well.  I am using the self-paced tutorial PDF step-by-step document to learn Telerik.  You list a link that is not in the PDF (http://www.telerik.com/help/aspnet-ajax/grddesigncreatinghierarchicalgrids.html).  I also notice that there are other samples and tutorials on the telerik.com website.

  1. How are they (the documentation) different from the other?
  2. What are they?  I've seen the PDF, the above link, the Telerik Trainer (which only lets me view the "introduction", nothing else)
  3. Which one/s should I use to learn Telerik?

I ask because I'm having some problems using the scripts in the PDF (they don't all work), and I'd like to better manage my time learning Telerik.

Thanks!

Hi R2,

I think that you can find the information you need from various online resources using the search facilities on our site.

Thanks, Sebastian, that is the obvious answer and is what I have been doing :)  The stronger the search queries, the better the results.  The weaker the search queries (which results from novice's not really knowing the tool or what to query), weaker the results.  As such, my questions are asking which of the online resources are best to begin with and progressively work through -- since it's apparent from the example URL I listed that  some "how to"s are not included in the PDF courseware, even though said courseware introduces/features the control or code.   I'm just asking for a practical path and/or outline to use to avoid going down several "rabbit trails" to learn the tool and recommend the Telerik RadControls
.
Could you recommend the path you and the rest of the Telerik team used to learn the tool?

Thanks!

Hi R2,

Thank you for the clarification  - now I see your point more clearly.

To start with, you can browse the online demos and the documentation of the controls as well as familiarize with the content of the self-paced tutorial for RadControls for ASP.NET AJAX. Additionally, you can review the videos from our Telerik trainer which illustrate common scenarios/configurations put into practice.

Once you get acquainted with most of it, you can extend your knowledge by searching for more specific solutions in the knowledge base, code library or public forums.

Best regards,
Sebastian

Thank you, Sebastian, for your response.

I did note in my post that I have tried to use the Telerik Trainer, however, I can not get beyond the "introduction" video that talks about the Trainer itself (how to use it, basically).  It does not display a Table of Contents (TOC) listing the videos that I see referenced during the "intro".  I've viewed the entire intro more than once, hoping it would tell me how to access the videos, but it does not.  Therefore, I don't see how I can get to the actual training videos.  What am I doing wrong that I can't get the Video TOC?   I've downloaded the Trainer, it's located in my c:/documents and settings/username/my documents/telerik trainer and list several folders i.e.:
  • ActiveSkill Add Finish Page
  • ActiveSkill Adding User Functionality
  • ActiveSkill Admin
  • ActiveSkill Database Maintenance
  • ActiveSkill Getting Started
  • and so on...

Do the items in the above bullet list represent the videos or what are they?

Sincerely,
r2

Hello R2,

All the Trainer videos for ASP.NET AJAX are available for download here:
http://www.telerik.com/support/trainer/aspnet-ajax.aspx

You need to download the trainer tutorials separately and play them with the Telerik Trainer tool.

Thanks, Sebastian.  I've tried that and now I view the tutorials I select.

I still need an answer to this question:  What do these files listed in the Telerik Trainer directory relate to?

  • ActiveSkill Add Finish Page
  • ActiveSkill Adding User Functionality
  • ActiveSkill Admin
  • ActiveSkill Database Maintenance
  • ActiveSkill Getting Started
  • and so on...
  • Sincerely,
    R2

    Hi,

These folders are from the Step-by-Step PDF tutorial and the accompanying ActiveSkill Application:

The link for the trainer videos mentioned above, http://www.telerik.com/support/trainer/aspnet-ajax.aspx, now leads to a server error. Where will I find this now? Thank you.

Never mind. I found the videos. Not sure they are what was referenced here but I will look around. I'd delete this post but don't see a why to do so.
