Selected Item View

I'm converting from Componentart menu which had a really great feature for the menu with the Selected Item.

I have found a couple of references to it here, but none that deal with a menu that is mixed Images/Text. The top level of my menu has images, but the dropdowns are text. I would like the top level image to display a selected image when an item in the dropdown is active.

Can someone point me to an example where images and text are used like my situation? Thanks.

Thank you...I was able to incorporate pieces of that code into my site to make it work with the way I had already coded for the breadcrumbs. My solution is a little less dynamic than yours, but I only have 8 menu items, so it's only a few extra lines of code.
