Hi Sjur,
The Safari support is important for us, however the Safari is a quite problematic browser. To make some functionalities properly working in the editor the developer should write a lot of hacks and workarounds.
Regarding the Image selection issue, this is a browser behavior which could be reproduced in our competitors' editors as well as in the standard editable DIV, IFRAME elements. If you would like to select an image object in the content area, just click next to the image, hold the left mouse key and drag the mouse cursor over the image.
