I've seen similar questions posted for the Menu and ComboBox controls but I haven't seen one for toolbar.  The question is, for a RadToolBarDropDown (or split dropdown), is it possible to make the menu expand UP instead of down?  I haven't seen an ExpandDirection property or any other way of doing this.

THANKS

Hi nowickim,

Indeed, RadToolBar currently does not contain an ExpandDirection property. Can you give us some directions on the scenarios you would use an ExpandDirection set to Up, so that we determine if to include this possibility for the next release of the controls?

Unfortunately we are in the end of the production cycle of the SP2 release right now and we will not be able to add the property for the upcoming release (scheduled for the next few days).

I'm looking forward to your reply,

We have a web application that uses the full size of the browser window, and we wanted to dock the Toolbar across the bottom of the page/window.  We also wanted to use the DropdownButton functionality but obviously in this scenario there's no room for the dropdown list.  So we wanted to make it expand upwards instead.

I guess we'll use the Menu component until you get this functionality in place for the Toolbar unless you can think of a workaround.

Hi nowickim,

To my regret I cannot suggest a proper workaround for now. I logged the ExpandDirection request to our tracking system though, and I hope we will provide the option for the first service pack release of the RadControls for ASP.NET Ajax Q2 package. The Q2 package itself is in final preparation stage and will be available later this week.

Kind regards,

Hi

I wanted to ask about the ExpandDirection Update, in 2008 Q3 there is still no ExpandDirection on the RadToolBarDropDown. Or am I missing something? Using the Menu isn't satisfying in therms of Icons/Text/Tooltip etc.

Thanks beforehand.

Hello Studach,

You are right that ExpandDirection is not implemented yet. We'll take it into consideration for the next release. We're sorry for the caused inconvenience.

I was just about to ask the same thing.
We really would like to have toolbar dropdowns, dropping UP.
Is it on the roadmap for your 2009 release, when is this due?

Hello Herve,

Unfortunately the ExpandDirection property is not yet implemented. However the good news is that it is scheduled for addition in the following weeks.
