Hi,

We have RadEditor 5.8.12.0 and MOSS 2007.

RadEditor works fine in non-IE browsers, but it also is activated in IE. I have not specifically activated it, just deployed it in Solution Management after un-deploying the Lite 4.5 version.

I would like RadEditor to NOT activate in IE, instead using the MOSS built-in rich text editor.

How do I achieve this?

Many thanks

Mark

Hi Mark,

The requested feature to use RadEditor only in non IE browser and the built-in MOSS editor in IE is not offered and supported out-of-the box. You need to implement your own custom solution with RadEditorSharePoint.dll that will check for the user browser and replace the built-in editor - a feature which is out-of-the scope of the advertised functionality of RadEditor and our support.

All the best,

Many thanks Rumen,

My confusion is that the previous version did only activate for non-IE browsers. Why was this changed?

Hello Mark,

At first the classic version of RadEditor for MOSS started as RichHtml editing enhancement in SharePoint list items, only when it was not provided by the OBB editor. For example in different than IE browsers. This was limited by Microsoft. Later there were a lot of request for enabling the editor in IE as well, so we added the "Use RadEditor to edit List Items in Internet Explorer as well" feature. It is our opinion that having two features for enabling the editor in different browser leads to inconstant and inconvenient  user experience. When the ASP.NET AJAX version for the cotrol 5.x was released, we could (the limitation by Microsoft was removed) implement only one "Use RadEditor to edit List Items" feature, which we believe is the better user experience.

Indeed in you case you prefer the old functionality, but this is not the case with the majority of our clients. Unfortunately currently the only way of achieving the functionality is to create you own custom version of RadEditor for MOSS wsp solution and implement the features for different browsers you self. The source code of RadEditor for MOSS is provided on demand and if you decide to create a custom solution, you can ask for it in an official support ticket.
