Hey there,
I have a strange problem with a RadEditor that has been running quite literally for 1½ years now with no problems.

We're using 2008 Q2 components, and one of the clients are now reporting that in IE 8, all his editor buttons are gone (see the screendumps). However on my computer and at all the other clients we don't get the same issue. I have tried opening the page with IE7, 8, Chrome 4 and FF 3.6 and I get the editor rendered neatly in every browser.
Even the client himself gets a neatly rendered editor in FF.

So what puzzles me is that even after a cache clearing of IE8, a computer restart, removal of all third party plugins of IE 8, adding the page to trusted sites in security settings and finally a reinstall of IE8, the problem persists at his end.
What little button have I forgotten to push, for it to work at his machine?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello Michael,

I am also not aware of this problem, but please note that version 2008 Q2 does not offer support for IE8 because it is released before the official release of this browser build. We introduced support for IE8 in version Q1 2009 SP1 (version 2009.1.402).

What you can do is to set the following meta tag on the page with RadEditor

<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />

which will render the page as in IE7.

If this does not solve the problem, our recommendation is to upgrade to the latest Q1 SP1 2010 version of RadEditor which offers full support for Internet Explorer 8.

All the best,

Hi Rumen,
Thanks for your reply, I will implement your suggestion and ask the client to try again.
However please note that not everyone has the problem as I mentioned, so there must be something different on the clients machine I just can't seem to figure out what it is.

Hi Michael,

Here are three additional suggestions that could be helpful:
1) The first one is to check the screen DPI settings of the client's machine -> In Windows 7 you can change it through Control Panel -> Display -> Set to default Normal.

2) Check whether the page is zoomed in IE8 and set it to 100%.

3) My final suggestion is make full reset of Internet Explorer 8 settings: go to Tools menu -> Internet Options -> Advanced -> click the Reset button and restore the original IE settings.

If the PC is working in a domain and the administrator has enabled some security settings then the full reset may not occur.

Sincerely,
Rumen
